Day of Surgery

  • Your surgeon will give you specific instructions that sometimes include stopping medications or showering with specific anti-microbial soaps prior to your arrival.
  • Please follow all instructions from your surgeon.
  • The patient should brush their teeth prior to arriving for surgery.
  • If the patient wears contact lenses, glasses, or dentures, bring a container to protect them.
  • Arrive at the designated time, which is usually 1 ½ – 2 hours prior to surgery start time. Wear comfortable clothing, but leave valuables at home.
  • Do Not eat/or drink 8 hours prior to your scheduled procedure
  • Do NOT use lotions, perfumes, cologne, gels, hairspray, makeup, hairpins, deodorant or powders the day of surgery.
  • A specialty nurse will prep you for surgery. You will change into a patient gown and empty your bladder. Female patients may be asked for a urine sample. The nurse will take your blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate.
  • The patient or guardian (if patient is a minor) will be asked to sign consents to authorize the physician to preform the surgery.
  • The anesthesiologist will talk with the patient and discuss the best plan of action.
  • The operating room nurse will interview the patient and transfer them to the operating room while the family waits in the waiting room. Various monitoring devices will be attached to the patient to ensure health and safety during surgery.
